Peter Augustin is a resident of New Zealand, living in the Wellington region. He moved to New Zealand in December of 2004, having previously lived for 34 years in Switzerland.

Born 1950, Slovenia. Peter followed in family traditions associated with art and music, with a love of painting. As a young man in 1970, Peter moved to Switzerland.

In Switzerland his painting became an important part of his life and he developed his talent with studies and support from other artists. From 1999 until recently he was a student of Paul Haehlen, a well respected Swiss Artist.

His art reflects the passion and excitement he feels as an artist and the beauty and joy of the human form. The human form dominates many of Peter's works and in his hands it is highly symbolic and laden with colour and emotion. (Ron Epskamp, Exhibitions Gallery of Fine Arts, Wellington, NZ)

A member of the Swiss Art Society, the New Symbolists Group of St. Petersburg, Russia, and a member of the Slovenian Art Society. Since 2005, a member of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, NZ Art Guild, New Zealand Water Colour Society, and Kapiti Art Society.

Artist Comments

I use brushes, pallet knives, sponges, combs and even bare hands to work on canvas or hardboard with oils, acrylic and collage effects. I primarily paint figurative in a Modern Surrealistic Style. I am not limited to one style and enjoy new challenges. Although I am known for my figurative and face paintings, I enjoy to paint landscape as a change.
